Causes I support

  • PGP, open source, not the proprietary offerings by Symantec or any other commercial entity. The reason for choosing open source over a commercial version is that open source software is openly available to the scrutiny of independent developers whereas commercial software is typically not. There is a common belief, shared by me, that open source has more integrity than commercial software in certain arenas. Internet privacy is one of them, hence the recommendation for PGP. There is a wealth of information on the internet about PGP; a good starting point is here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pretty_Good_Privacy
  • Tor Project, a group providing solutions for better anonymity on the internet. For more information: https://www.torproject.org/
  • Open Source Initiative, the official stewards of the Open Source Definition (OSD): http://opensource.org/docs/osd Again, my reasoning is that open source is scrutinized by independent developers who are not just out to make a profit. For more information: http://opensource.org/
